Depending which one you already have. I just currently got gimp and have heard that it is a bit harder to figure out than photoshop is.

I've found that GIMP is easier to figure out, especially if you are a beginner, while Photoshop makes things easier for the advanced digital artist.^^ Here's what I consider the pros and cons of each:
GIMP
Pros: Free, simple, versatile.
Cons: Occasionally freezes up/crashes, usually only occurs if you don't update.
Photoshop
Pros: Professional, lots of options.
Cons: It can be a bit complicated, many versions are pricey.

I wouldn't recommend Photoshop unless you:
A) Have a highly realistic style and/or also do photography.
B) Are willing to pay when you can get a similar (slightly inferior) product for free.

Hope that helped!

I agree. GIMP is cool.
